Magellan Refurbished GPS

Magellan Navigation, Inc. is one of the major producers of consumer GPS devices in America. They are an American company located in California, but they are a worldwide player in the industry as well with sales organizations in France and Russia. They are right up there with Garmin and TomTom in the big three in terms of consumer GPS devices.

Magellan GPS units generally include a slew of viewing options to give users a better experience with their devices. These views include a 3D bird’s-eye view to help users get a bigger picture of where they are located at any given moment, a night view for more comfortable viewing at night, and useful pop-up visuals that alert users of upcoming events like turns. Some models also use the more robust SiRFstar III for position accuracy to within an astonishing three meters. Text-to-speech functionality is also a big feature on many Magellan GPS units, both refurbished and new.

If you ever want to give a Magellan a test drive before taking the plunge and buying one of their devices you can always rent a Hertz rental car which features a Magellan manufactured navigational GPS device are found in these rentals for an additional fee. This will give you the feel for the Magellan NAVTEQ based maps and excellent routing system to see if you like it.

Here is a list of a few of the devices that we taken a look at:

  • Refurbished Magellan Maestro 4250 – The refurbished Magellan Maestro 4250 is a sleek automotive GPS unit that received very favorable reviews when it was initially released by Magellan at the very end of 2007. The Magellan Maestro 4250 has a 4.3-inch widescreen WQVGA Color Touch Screen, a traffic receiver for live traffic updates built into the device, and can support an astronomical six million POI. This automotive GPS also features text-to-speech functionality, a Bluetooth phone interface, and an operable voice command system – enabling you to use many of its features hands free. At a price tag of $119.99 this is a lot of bang for your buck.
  • Refurbished Magellan Maestro 4040 -This is a solid GPS. The screen and user interface are high quality and create a usable and efficient experience for consumers. The routing on the machine is quick and accurate and load built-in speaker can alert you upcoming turns rather easily. Other helpful features on the refurbished Magellan Maestro 4040 include the “Current Location” feature, the ability to quickly access multiple routing methods, a multi-destination “Trip Planner,” and around 4.5 million POI make this a full featured, user friendly refurbished GPS. The price is also rather good, hovering just above the $100 mark.
  • Refurbished Magellan Maestro 4000 – The refurbished Magellan Maestro 4000 is a lower tier refurbished GPS made by Magellan. Its lack of text-to-speech makes it a last resort GPS in my book, especially since there are other comparably priced models that do have this feature, like the Maestro 4040. In fact, Magellan has discontinued this GPS.
